Spanish technology for the small aircraft of the future

sustainability, As it is known, all economic sectors are changing. Air transport due to its pollution, would not be less. Europe is therefore smaller, more competitive, more robust, with a lower environmental impact and reduces CO2, NOx and noise emissions by 20% and 30%.

That’s where Spanish technology is. air technology, Avionics and aircraft technologies experts who, together with Clue Technologies, have led the Imasat project for the past four years. This is a project for planes carrying six to 19 passengers; especially to their onboard computer, where they can manage to reduce the size, weight and costs of the computer, and thus small aircraft.

“We have achieved a significant reduction in size, weight and costs of the on-board computer compared to systems currently on the market,” he says. Rafael Ortiz, head of Aertec’s Aerospace and Defense Systems Area. Thus, with this technology, it is aimed that the European aviation industry can adopt “wire flight (FBW) systems to reduce the weight of avionic systems, reduce maintenance operations, and also increase aircraft safety by improving the human-machine interface workload for pilots”.

The use of fly-by-ware – replacing traditional manual flight controls with an electronic interface – will reduce the weight of avionics systems. With Imasat included in the broader Clean Sky 2 program – “the most important European research program for the development of technology that enhances competitiveness in the industrial aviation sector” – it will make this program the most important European research program for development. technology that increases competitiveness in the industrial aviation sector.

how it works

According to the information provided by Aertec, this small on-board computer, which is in the final stage of environmental tests, is lighter than its predecessors and has a larger computing capacity, as it is designed for any interface they need. “This would come to develop the concept of integrated modular avionics,” the small transport aircraft says. In this way, the computer can be used as a flight control element in the SAT segment, “providing a new approach to the architecture, design, software, production and certification of a new concept of integrated modular avionics”.

construction project

In addition to the implementation of a fly-by-ware system, the Imasat project makes it possible to move towards a more electric aircraft type for various purposes, increasing flight and operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

The first, according to Aertec, is to contribute to the lower cost of computing nodes compared to existing nodes. Second, it provides flight stability derived from the application of electronically calculated control laws as part of the fly-by-wire system. Third, save fuel by reducing the weight, size and power of the systems (electrical and hydraulic) and actuators (EHA, EMA and SHA) required to actuate the flight controls.

They also say that Imasat is “an excellent opportunity to develop the first fully European technologies-based avionics system that will have significant strategic advantages for the European SAT industry.”
