CHAQUEÑO INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION CELEBRATES ITS FIRST YEAR

“We have had many significant achievements this first year as we were able to receive awards of more than 260 million pesos for research, development and innovation projects and progress was also made in establishing Norte Grande’s first Data Science Innovation Center.” , underlined Juan Martín Fernández, the head of the organization.

This November 24, it has been a year since the Chaco Legislative Assembly passed Law No. 3,464 A, which established the Chaco Institute for Science, Technology and Innovation (ICCTI). Although the organization was launched in January 2022, many advances have been made in terms of scientific and technological development in the province, which opens the door to new challenges for the years to come.

“We have had many significant achievements this first year as we were able to receive awards of more than 260 million pesos for research, development and innovation projects and progress was also made in establishing Norte Grande’s first Data Science Innovation Center.” , underlined Juan Martín Fernández, president of the ICCTI.

The Institute highlighted as a success the development and implementation of the first co-funded fellowship program for 30 researchers in the province, which provided an increase in CONICET staff of up to 40 percent, and the opening of the first call with provincial funds for equipment. and infrastructure to represent more than 1,000 million pesos investment in capital goods, with national contributions.

Fernández stressed the importance of autonomous existence: “We are an institute dedicated to innovation in the state, an area that did not exist before and that many states and national governments have had for a long time.” It is very important for us to have the support of science and technology institutions and organizations, we see that they see us as a strategic ally, they add new ones to the different calls we make and participate in our events. “.

ICCTI is currently working on the design of a Four-Year Plan with the participation of universities, institutions and chambers of business and industry. Virtual and face-to-face meetings began in October to work on the multi-actor and participatory proposal to determine the main policies that will govern the province in terms of Science, Technology and Innovation over the next four years.

“Investment is the only way to create quality jobs in the province, and there should be opportunities for it; innovation is what allows SMEs and Chaco companies to acquire new ideas and compete in and out of the state,” said Fernández. In order for this to happen, “science and technology institutions, companies and the state need to work with resources and coordination. This is our duty.”

When asked about the challenges the institute will face in the future, the official replied: “We are working to solidify the institute institutionally, to make it a strong, agile and dynamic public institution with the capacity to understand what is going on around us, and to provide useful tools for long-term answers as state policy”. He also said that “we want to harmonize the efforts of all actors of the scientific and technological system, including national institutions and business chambers, to move forward in a strategy that supports productive transformation and provincial development.”

ICCTI held a series of events and a social media campaign to commemorate the first anniversary throughout November.
